Watch a clip before you discuss
Show a video or audio clip: set its address, a poster frame and captions, and if participants can pause it. Know what Carrier records and what it does not record.
-
Set up the clip
Select a Media segment. The settings are:
- Media Type: video, audio, or a YouTube or Vimeo link.
- Media URL: the address of the clip. Alternatively, upload a file of up to 10 MB. Carrier then keeps the file, so it cannot be lost during the study.
- Poster Image URL: the image that shows before the clip plays. Video only.
- Captions URL: a WebVTT file. Video only.
- Autoplay: the clip starts when the participant arrives.
- Loop playback: the clip plays again after it ends.
- Show player controls: participants get the play bar.
- Allow participants to pause: if you untick it, a paused clip starts again immediately.

What participants see, and what is recorded
The clip starts when the participant arrives. Each participant watches independently of the others. If the browser stops the automatic start, a Start the video button shows.
A pause does not stay.
With the Auto transition, the end of the clip moves the participant on. Otherwise, Continue moves them on. With Sync, as here, a group waits until all participants click Continue.
Carrier records the start and end time of the segment. It does not record play, pause or seek events. Thus it cannot show how much of the clip a participant watched.
The clip plays with captions. Carrier cancels a pause. Then Continue.
